Hello and welcome! My name is Gurpreet. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) and a Canadian Certified Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). I completed my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University.
Outside of my credentials, I am a first-generation South Asian female born in Canada. I have a passion for helping others find their inner strengths to help them improve their mental health and wellness. With over six years of experience in the mental health field, I have worked with vulnerable and marginalized populations who have experienced extreme life transitions and change, increased stressors, familial fragmentation, immigration issues, and high mental health needs. I have a wealth of knowledge and expertise in working with the unique and complex experiences of others, unravelling past, present, and future needs on their path to healing.
I value working collaboratively with you, building off your strengths, being genuine and curious, creating a welcoming space. I help you create meaningful change in your life, working on your physical, mental, and emotional needs through a holistic approach. I meet you where you are and work with your unique needs, which may involve looking at your past, present, and future needs and goals, as well as exploring the culture you grew up in and live in now.
I take an integrative approach, adapting to you and your unique set of needs and intersectionalities, which are the parts that make you who you are, such as your family of origin, upbringing, culture, gender identity, socioeconomic status, and so forth. We may explore these different areas in sessions to understand and acknowledge how they have contributed to who you are today and who you want to be. I use modalities such as person-centered, attachment theory, narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, internal family systems, inner child and shadow work, strengths-based, mindfulness, as well as using trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and anti-oppressive approaches. My approach to your healing is based on your needs and goals, which we work on collaboratively in sessions. Together, we can begin your healing journey and empower you to become your authentic self as you reclaim your inner dialogue and reconnect with your strength and capabilities.
